Search engines will follow the page and pass the link authority of URLs within but will not show the page in search results. This tag is most suitable for eCommerce websites with lots of filters and on-site ‘search result’ pages. It can also be used to resolve pagination issues.

Index, Nofollow – <meta name=”robots” content=”index, nofollow”>
Search engines will index the web pages but would not pass on the link authority to other internal or external websites. It is most suitable when you don’t want to pass the link authority to another website because you don’t trust the website you are giving backlinks to or if they are too many closely spaced external links in the content that would make it look spammy to crawlers.
