Two ways to resolve duplicate content created on the website due to paginations.
1. Use Noindex Robots Meta Tag-
Base your decision on how important it is for the business to show paginated series results in search results. It is critical for blogs that use paginations. For most eCommerce companies, pagination is common in category pages, and it would make sense to simply mark all paginated pages with Noindex Meta tag.
2. Use Prev/Next-
Use rel=”next” / “prev” attributes in the <head> section of all the pages after first page. With rel=”prev” link to the first page and rel=”next” link to the last page.
For article pages rel=”next” / “prev” should be avoided unless it is a series of single article documents and not a series of articles. Google’s official guidance warns against using rel=prev/next for a series of articles.
Appropriate use of rel canonical
Do not use rel canonical for pagination, which signifies equivalence of content on two pages. Practically speaking, if the content on page 2 isn’t equivalent or the same as page 1, to mark them with rel=canonical would be incorrect. When Google sees that page 2 is different from page 1, it will ignore the rel=canonical.
